NYC Heating Equipment Permit: The $130 Per-Equipment Filing Fee
Use New York City’s Table 28-112.2 line for installing, altering, or replacing electric or gas heating equipment and keep other fees separate.
New York City’s fee table lists a $130 filing fee per type, device, or equipment for a permit to install, alter, or replace oil-burning equipment, gas or electric heating, or other energy-source equipment. The city’s code index identifies the underlying Local Law 126 of 2021 (Int. 2261-A) as effective November 7, 2022. Read the city’s Table 28-112.2 source and the Buildings local-law index.
One listed equipment type starts at $130; two use 2 × $130 = $260. The line is a Department of Buildings filing fee. It is separate from the equipment, licensed contractor, electrical or gas work, inspections, and any alteration fee that the project may trigger.
Identify the filing scope
The city’s wording covers heating equipment by type, device, or equipment. Ask the licensed professional to identify whether the project has one filing line or multiple equipment types. An electric heat-pump change, a gas furnace replacement, and an oil-burning appliance may not be interchangeable entries simply because they heat a home.
NYC’s electrical project guidance says installation and modification work requires an electrical permit and licensed master electrician. Review the electrical project requirements. Do not treat the $130 heating-equipment line as a complete electrical permit or as permission to begin work.
Avoid a false all-in number
The $130 figure is not the contractor’s installation price. It does not say what a site survey, disconnect, wiring, gas piping, venting, combustion-air work, equipment removal, testing, or correction costs. The city’s table also uses filing and renewal concepts, so request the exact application type and whether additional fee lines apply.
A quote should show the equipment type, filing fee, contractor labor, materials, inspections, and any related electrical or building application. If a project includes a new service, panel, or extensive alteration, the professional should explain the applicable filing structure rather than multiplying $130 by every appliance in the home.
Booking decision
Use $130 per listed type, device, or equipment as the narrow NYC Table 28-112.2 filing input. For two separately filed equipment entries, the arithmetic is $260. The table was checked September 8, 2026; confirm the current table, permit type, and licensed-filing requirements with NYC Buildings before work starts because the filing fee is a price component, not an installed heating-system total.
