The 5x5 comparison in Plano is a choice between a smaller advertised web rate and the access features attached to it. Extra Space’s 6501 W Plano Pkwy page displayed a 5x5 outdoor/no-drive-up unit at a $15 web rate and $28 in-store rate. Public Storage’s 4633 Hedgcoxe Rd page displayed 5x5 outdoor units at $17 and $18 online, with a $29 one-time administrative fee. Extra Space’s facility page and Public Storage’s page were checked September 8, 2026.

The lowest observed first-month rent is therefore Extra Space’s $15, but it is not an apples-to-apples promise of the same door or access. Public Storage’s $17 rate plus its published $29 admin fee creates $46 before insurance, lock, or taxes. Extra Space’s displayed page did not establish an equivalent admin fee in the observed text, so its complete move-in total remains unknown.

A 5x5 is 25 square feet. It suits boxes, seasonal gear, and small furniture; it is a poor fit if you need a drive-up door or a wide access path. Public Storage lists access hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the referenced facility. Record the exact unit type, floor, door, web reservation condition, and recurring rate before comparing.

Choose by move-in total and access, not the lowest bold number. Ask both facilities for the recurring month-two rent, admin fee, lock, insurance, and rate-change terms. These are observed promotional web rates at two named Plano facilities, not a citywide average.

Compare the same storage condition at checkout. A climate-controlled unit can change which provider is cheaper, and a promotional rate can expire before the move is finished. Ask both facilities for the regular monthly rent, administrative fee, lock requirement, truck access, and notice needed to vacate. Keep the first-month offer beside the ongoing rate so a short storage stay is not compared with a long-term total.
