Wayne County Michigan Deed Recording Fee: $26 or Conditional $30
Wayne County lists a $26 general recording charge plus a $4 survey/remonumentation fee when applicable.
Wayne County’s Register of Deeds lists $26 for a deed or other instrument not otherwise specified, plus a $4 state survey and remonumentation fee where applicable. When that state line applies, the worksheet is $26 + $4 = $30 for one document. If it does not apply, the county line remains $26. Read Wayne County’s recording page.
The phrase “where applicable” is the decision point. Ask the Register of Deeds or closing professional to classify the instrument and review the legal description before assuming $30. A deed with its own schedule row, an exemption-related filing, or a separate affidavit may have a different amount. Recording charges are separate from preparation, notarization, transfer taxes, title work and courier services.
| Situation | County worksheet | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| General-category instrument, state line not applicable | $26 | Instrument falls in “not otherwise specified” row |
| General-category instrument, state line applies | $30 | $4 survey/remonumentation eligibility |
| Deed plus separate filing | Add each document’s applicable row | Document count and instrument types |
The $30 figure is therefore a conditional total, while $26 is the useful base comparison for a general-category instrument. Do not apply either amount to an entire closing package without counting the filings. If a deed and affidavit are submitted as separate documents, ask whether each receives its own recording charge.
Wayne County also publishes a sample deed showing the general statutory format. Review the sample deed alongside the actual instrument. The sample helps identify document structure, but it does not establish a fee or prove that the $4 line applies.
Before submission, send the office the exact document type and legal description and request the fee answer in writing. Save the response with the closing worksheet. Recheck the county page immediately before filing because state and county schedules can change, and because the $4 wording makes eligibility part of the price.
