DPF Cleaning Cost: PDX Bake vs. NW Emissions Wash
Compare two Pacific Northwest DPF providers by filter type, cleaning method, removal scope, and posted price.
Two Pacific Northwest specialists publish prices for different DPF jobs. PDX DPF Cleaning in Lake Oswego, Oregon, lists $250 for open-ended filters on semitrucks, box trucks, and heavy equipment, and $350 for its recommended cleaning-plus-bake service for those same open-ended filters. It lists passenger-vehicle closed systems at $450–$650, pickup-truck removal, cleaning, and reinstall at $1,500–$2,000, and a combined closed DOC/DPF unit at $850. PDX’s services and pricing says the pickup price can include gaskets, hardware, failed sensors, code reset, and verification.
NW Emissions in Vancouver, Washington, posts $250 for a DPF bake and $350 for aqueous cleaning. It also lists a $150 DOC bake and says its DPF/DOC cleaning serves light-duty pickups through severe-duty trucks. NW Emissions’ menu says its $350 water-based process cleans both DPFs and DOCs; it does not present that line as a vehicle removal/reinstall package.
Compare the actual operations
| Provider and operation | Posted price | Scope boundary |
|---|---|---|
| PDX open-ended DPF cleaning | $250 | Semitruck, box truck, heavy equipment; basic cleaning |
| PDX open-ended cleaning + bake | $350 | Deep clean and high-heat bake |
| PDX passenger closed DPF | $450–$650 | Open, clean internally, re-weld |
| NW DPF bake | $250 | Thermal cleaning |
| NW aqueous DPF/DOC cleaning | $350 | Water-based cleaning for DPF and DOC |
| PDX pickup removal/full service | $1,500–$2,000 | Remove, clean, reinstall; parts may add |
For an open-ended filter, PDX’s bake upgrade is $350 − $250 = $100. That is a method upgrade, not proof that its $250 job is equivalent to NW’s $250 bake. A passenger-car owner should not use either $250 line: PDX explicitly places closed passenger systems in the $450–$650 range.
Ask what arrives at the shop
Confirm whether you are delivering a removed filter or leaving a vehicle for removal and reinstall. Give the vehicle year, engine, filter type, DOC/DPF arrangement, and warning symptoms. Ask whether the quote includes flow testing, cleaning report, gaskets, damaged hardware, sensor replacement, code reset, and post-install verification. PDX says parts replacements require approval; NW says it works alongside diesel technicians when faults extend beyond cleaning.
Ask whether the filter is suitable for cleaning or has damage requiring replacement. Recurring soot loading also needs investigation into the underlying fault. Request diagnosis separately when the DPF warning returns. Use the provider whose operation matches the filter and removal boundary, then refresh both menus before scheduling because prices and turnaround terms can change.
