The key question is whether the replacement is a direct swap. Best Buy’s installation terms require an existing similar appliance and list a dedicated 110-volt line, vent-direction changes, new receptacle boxes, additional ductwork, and custom carpentry as possible additional charges. Whirlpool says its crew will not supply venting, modify cabinets, or connect to ducting that fails the model specifications. A low mounting price is therefore meaningful only when the old footprint and duct line are usable.

Removal can expose the real work

Ask whether the old unit is screwed to a cabinet, caulked to tile, or tied into a duct that does not match the new blower. Whirlpool says removal may be declined if it risks damage to wall treatments, cabinets, or fixtures. Best Buy says the crew will not disassemble a product for haul-away. If the old microwave is unusually heavy, damaged, or custom framed, include a separate removal or carpentry line.

The vent choice also affects ownership. A recirculating setup needs the correct charcoal filter and accessible replacement path. A ducted setup needs an intact exterior route and cap. Do not let an installer promise “venting” without naming whether air goes outdoors and where the termination is. Test the fan, light, heat function, and door at completion.

Make the price comparable

Request the exact model, opening measurements, cabinet photos, outlet photo, duct photo, and whether the seller supplies mounting hardware. Ask for delivery, installation, removal, haul-away, electrical changes, duct changes, permits, and wall repair as separate lines.
