Do not compare “trenchless” labels alone

Request the pre-work cleaning and CCTV video, pipe diameter, length, depth, grade, laterals, bends, and defect map. Ask whether the liner proposal includes end seals, lateral reinstatement, bypass pumping, curing method, and a post-installation video. For bursting, ask about replacement material, upsizing, pits, utility conflicts, lateral reconnections, and surface settlement risk.

Compare lifetime scope and restoration

Separate inspection, cleaning, temporary flow management, rehabilitation, lateral work, permits, access pits, and restoration. Ask for a warranty that states whether it covers the liner, end seals, lateral connections, and future access. A lower construction price can move cost into diameter loss, access, laterals, or restoration.

Use sewer line replacement cost only as broad planning context. It does not establish a local trenchless price. The next action is to obtain two proposals based on the same video and defect map, with a written explanation of why each method can meet the required structural and flow result.

Ask for the acceptance test as well as the installation method. A lining bid should state how the liner is measured, cured, sealed at ends, and reopened at laterals. A bursting bid should state replacement pipe diameter, pull route, pit dimensions, and how the contractor checks grade after the pull. If flow must remain available during work, ask for bypass pumping and its monitoring. These details turn a technology label into a deliverable you can inspect.
